Sinjar is regarded one of the oldest district in Mosul governorate, and has become a district belonging to the state of Mosul Ottoman Empire in 1786. The population of Sinjar is about 400,000 and it is a combination of national and religious components , but for the time being Sinjar been neglected in all aspects of life and need to extend a hand of support and assistance.

The Norwegian Peacebuilding Centre is compiling a list of organisations working on issues related to women, peace and security.  If you are an NGO covering any of the following subjects we would be glad to hear from you. If you could send us a short email describing the kind of work you are doing, that would be much appreciated.

“Eliminating Violence against Women through the Rule of Law.” The conference will be held at Sulaymaniyah’s Art Palace on Saturday, April 17, and Sunday, April 18. Register by 12 noon, Wednesday 14th April.
Gender equality and women’s empowerment are fundamental to the global mission of the United Nations to achieve equal rights and dignity for all.  This is a matter of basic human rights, as enshrined in our founding Charter and the Universal Declaration.  It is part of the Organization’s very identity.
Though security plans and procedures are generally perceived to be “gender neutral,” aid agencies would benefit from incorporating gender as one of a number of contextual factors informing security management. At the same time, insufficient understanding of how to mainstream gender can inadvertently lead to unsafe practices.

In order to effectively contribute to Iraq's recovery, the EU and its member states, including the UK, should acknowledge the need for more significant and longer-term commitment.  Furthermore, they should improve aid effectiveness by ensuring more direct participation of the Iraqi people in the recovery processes.
