One of NCCI’s regular activities is organizing monthly general coordination meetings, which aim to improve information sharing and cooperation between NGOs operating in Iraq. On the 13th of October NCCI organized a joint general coordination meeting together with OCHA in NCCI’s Baghdad office.
Representatives from 24 local and international NGOs together with a delegation from OCHA and IOM participated in the meeting. The meeting started with a presentation by OCHA on the civilian-military deconflicting mechanism, which aims to avoid humanitarian actors being targeted by military forces operating in Iraq.
Secondly the attendants briefed each other on a number of current humanitarian issues in Iraq. The topics included the response to the cholera outbreak, expected new displacement following fighting in Ramadi and Baiji, WASH and health issues in the Muqdadiya district and health and shelter needs of IDPs in the Kassnazaniya camp south of Baghdad. As always NCCI’s weekly field report contains a detailed overview of the number of IDPs and their needs throughout the country.
