On Wednesday, 28th May 2014, NCCI attended the Donor Briefing Meeting in Baghdad, where it presented the Collective NGO Humanitarian Response to the Anbar IDP Crisis. The topics of NCCI’s presentation included: the Challenges Impacting the Efficiency of the NGO Humanitarian Response, Concerns of NGOs, Needs of IDPs, Collective Response of NGOs and NGOs’ Key Messages. The presentation, which was approved by the NCCI members who are part of the Anbar Working Group, also provided a map on NGO intervention which included 30 international and national NGOs. You can find the entire presentation attached for your information.
Following the meeting, Dr. Jacqueline Carol Badcock, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG) and Humanitarian Coordinator (HC), released a press statement highlighting the important work the UN and its NGO partners are doing to meet life savings and critical needs of IDPs. The DSRSG reported that international and national non-governmental organizations (NGOs), despite scarcity of resources and funding, have continued to ensure the timely and efficient provision of humanitarian assistance to the IDPs. She further quoted Mr Hashim Assaf, NCCI’s Executive Coordinator, who stated that “there are twice as many Anbar IDPs as Syrian refugees in Iraq, yet they receive less than half of the media and donor attention that goes to their Syrian neighbors”.
