Since the end of last year, more than 1 million people have been displaced inside Iraq due to violence in Anbar, Ninewa and the surrounding governorates. Following the recent outbreak of violence in Ninewa in June and the spread of violence to other parts of Iraq, 500,000 people were displaced from within and around the city of Mosul in the course of just one week. The majority of these IDPs, more than 300,000 people, fled to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). Given the expanding nature of the conflict, the number of IDPs in KRI is expected to continue to increase even more over the coming weeks and months.
In close partnership with its member community, the NGO Coordination Committee for Iraq (NCCI) has taken significant steps to respond to the urgent needs of NGOs by strengthening its presence in the KRI capital. NCCI’s office in central Ainkawa (close to Classy Hotel) is being led by Denis Chaudre, NCCI’s Humanitarian Forum Coordinator and Craig Anderson, NCCI's North Field Coordinator. Please do not hesitate in directing to them any requests for support or information on NGO coordination and ongoing activities. Contact details can be seen below.
