DORCAS Aid International - Winter Assistance for Vulnerable Families in Northern Iraq

Together with Welthungerhilfe (WHH), People in Need (PIN), and GIZ German International Cooperation, Dorcas is implementing the project ‘Winter Assistance for vulnerable families in Northern Iraq’. The project intervention aims to support vulnerable IDP families, located in villages outside of the IDP camps. This support consists out of NFI support, such as fuel, to endure the cold winter months. All registered IDP families (+/-12.000) in Zakho district are targeted to be supported, and 1.000 ultra-vulnerable families are targeted to be extra supported with a onetime cash assistance. In addition, the project will run 4 mobile clinics around Dohuk and Erbil governorates, to provide basic health care to over 4.000 families. Lastly, the project will construct, in close coordination with the responsible government agencies, 300 family shelters for the IDP camp ‘Mam Rashan’, located in Ninewa Province, but currently administrated by the Dohuk Governorate.

Dorcas, active in Iraq since June 2014, is a Christian relief and development organisation with a field office based in Dohuk. The current focal areas are Food, Protection, Shelter/NFI, Health, and WASH. Dorcas concentrates on the Northern part of KR-I, the governorates Dohuk, Nineva, and Kirkuk.
