NRC - Weekly Activity - January 3, 2017

NRC’s work in Erbil

 Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM):

  • NRC distributed 70 RRM kits (emergency food, water, bucket and hygiene items) to 56 families who recently arrived in Debaga camp from Qayyarh, Hawija, Bijil and Mosul.
  • NRC provided 1,338 RRM kit to 1,212 families in Khazer and Hassan Sham camps.

 Education:

  • Enrolment to date: 2,648 individuals at NRC’s School Support Centre in Khazer camp 1.
  • 1,081 students participated in 90 catch-up classes with activities including mathematics, Arabic, English and science at NRC’s School Support Centre in Khazer camp 1.
  • 1,047 students joined in 45 recreational activities (art, sports and music) at NRC’s School Support Centre in Khazer camp 1.
  • Enrolment to date: 1,731 individuals at NRC’s School Support Centre in Hassan Sham camp 1.
  • 1,054 students participated in 90 catch up classes with activities including mathematics, Arabic, English and science at NRC’s School Support Centre in Hassan Sham camp 1. 
  • 1,020 students joined in 67 recreational activities (art, sports and music) at NRC’s School Support Centre in Hassan Sham camp 1.

 CASH:

  • 23 families in Binaslawa, Turaq and Tobzawa received cash assistance from NRC.
  • The NRC’s CASH team visited 32 families across different locations in Erbil for post distribution.
  • The NRC’s CASH team conducted commodity price monitoring to 12 retail markets in Turaq, Tobzawa, Badawa, and Binaslawa in order to check if the cash intervention is having any negative impact on the market.

 Shelter:

  • in Qoshtapa, NRC delivered 253 non-food items (NFIs), such as matrasses, blankets, heaters, hygiene items and kitchen equipment to newly internally displaced person(IDPs) from Anbar.
  • NRC, completed shelter rehabilitation project in Erbil for 45 internally displaced families residing in substandard shelters. And, families received shelter upgrades along with rent reductions.

  

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response:

  • NRC’s GBV team facilitated psychosocial support activities for 72 adolescent girls in Hassan Sham camp U3.

 Information, counselling and legal assistance (ICLA):

  • ICLA team conducted mobile visits and group information sessions about legal information and advice on Registration and Civil Documentation (RCD) and Housing, Land and Property (HLP) to internally displaced person (IDPs).
  • ICLA teams delivered information and legal counselling services to 63 individuals in Hasan Sham and Khazar camps.
  • ICLA team delivered three group information sessions about compensation law to 113 internally displaced person (IDPs) in Darato, Erbil.

 NRC’s work in Kirkuk

 Shelter:

  • NRC team distributed 300 non-food items (NFIs), such as matrasses, blankets, heaters, hygiene items and kitchen equipment to 300 families in Laylan camp 1, Kirkuk.

 Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response:

  • Tents are ready to be installed in Nazrawa and Daquq camps for the establishment of NRC-run women’s centres.
  • In Laylan camp, the GBV team, in coordination with International Relief and Development (IRD), conducted psychosocial support activities for 195 women and 266 men.
  • In Daquq camp, NRC delivered literacy courses to 471 women and Kurdish language courses to 312
  • NRC’s GBV team in Yahyawa camp conducted psychosocial support activities for 37 women and delivered awareness session about safety in the camp to 16 women.
  • NRC in coordination with Save the Children International’s Non-Formal Education space delivered psychosocial support activities to 316 women in Panja Ali.
  • NRC’s GBV team conducted safety audit in Laylan II.
