Relief International - Relief International Supports Iraqi IDPs fleeing from Ninewa Governorate

Iraq’s ongoing displacement crisis has intensified over the past two weeks as Mosul city and many parts of Salahaddin and Diyala have fallen under the control of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Iraq now faces its worst humanitarian crisis since 2006, with hundreds of thousands of Iraqis fleeing their homes in search of safety.Relief International is rapidly mobilizing in Khasir Camp at the Erbil-Ninewa border and Garmawa at the Duhok-Ninewa border to provide protection services, and as water, sanitation and hygiene services to those in need.In both camps, Relief International’s protection team will prevent gender-based violence and offer assistance to survivors through raising awareness, identifying cases of concerns, making referrals and tracking cases. Our sanitation and hygiene team will provide community outreach and messaging on good hygiene practices to promote healthy behaviours and reduce the spread of disease.
Relief International is already well-established in Erbil where we serve 8,000 Syrian refugees through health, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and education community messaging as well as providing water quality monitoring services to ensure that refugees have access to clean and safe water.
