Summary Following initial scoping, trader and key informant interviews and market mapping and analysis markets in Semel District, Dohuk Governorate are deemed to be very resilient in the face of the huge influx of displaced people into the region. Markets were assessed for their ability to meet demand for non-food items in particular with the focus being on blankets, mattresses and clothes for children as these were highlighted by IDP communities in the region as priority items. This indicates that cash transfer programming (CTP) is a viable response option for the displaced population in the region as markets are functioning and accessible. More than 3,000 internally displaced persons have received core relief items, distributed by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in the city of Ramadi, in Anbar Governorate where fighting have caused massive displacement since December last year. “Amidst the enduring humanitarian needs and the difficulty for aid organizations to access Anbar Governorate, the DRC has been able to commence activities reaching the displaced population in Ramadi with relief assistance,” says Zinnah Kamah, DRC’s Head of Programs. The 600 household kits of core relief items provided by DRC contains hygiene kits, non-food and food parcels and are sufficient to last a family of five for one month. Activities completed for the reporting period in the Kurdistan Region and South/Central of Iraq: In the Kurdistan Region Camp coordination continues in Bajit Kandala (BK) 1 and 2. The two camps are visited 3 times weekly.DRC team worked on verifying the 1,000 IDP returnees, who were registered by local authorities and representatives of 19 villages across the Sehala Bridge. Several distribution activities were done during the week including: 1,300 hygiene kits for 1,300 families in BK camp; also 1,000 food parcels and 1, 360 hygiene kits were distributed in 19 villages in Zumar area for 1,000 IDP returnee families. Over 1.4 million Iraqis have been forced to leave their homes and relocate to safer regions in their country or abroad as the recent surge in violence has put their security at risk. Food safety has become another major concern that required attention from the Iraqi Red Crescent Society and other Red Cross and Red Crescent societies involved in the country’s crisis. In response to the situation, the Italian Red Cross has set up a field kitchen in the Dohuk governorate of Iraq’s Kurdish region.
